Jill Duggar: ’19 Kids and Counting’ Daughter Names Unborn Baby

By: Kimberly Ripley - August 28, 2014

Jill Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting fame recently announced that she and her husband of two months, Derick Dillard, are expecting their first baby. Now it seems she has named–or nicknamed, actually–her prospective bundle of joy.

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard tied the knot back on June 21st. Friends, family members, and fans were no doubt thrilled to hear news of her pregnancy just a month or so after their big day.

Derick and Jill Dillard shared word of their impending parenthood via an adorable photo on Instagram.

“We’re expecting!!! So grateful to God for this new little blessing!!! #babydilly #firsttimeparents #sogratefultoGod #derickdillard #jillmdillard,” she captioned the shot.

Did you notice anything in the caption? How about #babydilly?

It seems Baby Dilly is how Jill Duggar and her husband will refer to their unborn baby until he or she is born.

The happy couple first shared word of their pregnancy with People magazine.

“We’re having a baby!” Jill said. “We are so excited.”

“About 30 days after Jill and Derick got married they gathered everyone in the living room and shared the news,” proud Grandpa Jim Bob Duggar said. “Everyone was clapping and cheering, and we were in shock, too.”

It will certainly be fun for fans of 19 Kids and Counting to watch the progression of Jill Duggar’s pregnancy throughout the next several months. There will likely be baby showers and shopping trips, and lots of words of wisdom shared by Jill’s mom Michelle Duggar.

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard’s baby will be born into a huge, loving family full of aunts and uncles–as well as cousins, too. The oldest of the nineteen Duggar kids, Josh Duggar, has a family of his own.

What’s your take on Jill Duggar’s nickname for their unborn baby? Whether you like it or not, you’ll likely hear updates about Baby Dilly from now until the time he or she is born.

Jill – Even your parents waited 4 years to have their first. There is nothing wrong with getting to know each other better before adding a child to a new marriage.

    • Jenny Uebbing

Nothing wrong with opening your heart and your arms to a baby right away, either. To each their own. In our experience, having babies sooner rather than later has been a huge positive for our marriage.

Children are a blessing. Good would not have blessed them with a baby if he didn’t think they were ready. After all she has 18 siblings, I’m sure she knows her way around a diaper .

It would seem like Jill would NEED a break away from baby-sitting for 2 yrs or so… Maybe they did it to improve RATINGS for their show!!

    • gina

She was raised to be like Michelle.. have as many babies as you can.. she even said so..

  • GwellaGirl

Can you even know that soon if your pregnant? I smell controversy!!!

Many tests can detect pregnancy only days after a missed period. If they got married while she was ovulating, or shortly before (and ‘practiced a lot’ 😉 ), it’s very possible to have become pregnant after the wedding and know already.

    • Christine

She told her family 30 days after their marriage. She could’ve possibly got pregnant on her wedding night and missed a period 2 weeks later. This can be determined by a urine test. However, an ultrasound cannot detect a pregnancy until AT LEAST 6 weeks after conception. This would mean either A….she’s announcing a pregnancy based on a simple urine test. Or B….she had an ultrasound to determine pregnancy which means she would’ve gotten pregnant BEFORE her wedding. Either way, I think it’s very precarious to announce something so personal to the media during the time in which most miscarriages happen. She should’ve waited until after the 12th week to announce it. Congrats anyway :)

You cannot tell the sex of a child at 1 montn

  • Mady

I’m guessing the baby is s boy named Dylan because they nicknamed it ‘dilly’ but that could be short for Baby Dillard. What’s the real name???!!!

    • Renee Stuck

It’s way too soon to tell if it’s a boy or a girl…

      • Teddy

I’m hoping they will name it Deuteronomy.

the shoes in the picture are girl shoes

Dilly = Derrick + Jill + y. It probably has nothing to do with the actual name.

The problem I see with this family is that they raise their kids to fall in their footsteps. They control them from children all the way up to being married, now Jill will have as many children as God gives her as she’s already stated. The women are taught to have children, be in the kitchen, and no career at all. Jill was training to be a mid-wife, that will be out the window now. All of these kids will do the same thing just like the oldest son Josh and his wife Anna. They are working on #4 and they haven’t been married that long. Jim Dugger is the reason why all of this is happening. The girls are adults and they have to be chaperoned by another family member. I find that extremely crazy, it’s not normal.. This family in not normal at all, they don’t trust their kids to make the right choices, they don’t even give them a chance to either. I don’t like Michelle or Jim Bob, they had babies while the older children raised them. The 19 kids are raised way stricter than they ever were. I find them very hypocritical in everything they do. These kids don’t see it, they probably never will and that is the sad part. There are so many people who believe in what the Duggers are doing a good thing but in reality it’s not a good thing. When you have to control a 19 or older adult, there’s a problem somewhere. These children are raised in this system like in an occult. And I am a Christian, I will never agree with with the way these children are being raised.

    • Jill Johnson

It’s their choice for THEIR life. Debt free, polite, no government help, seem happy…. and they’re raised in one form of Christianity. Might not work for you, but they seem happy and well adjusted.

    • DUH

Well they aren’t your kids so your opinion is nothing but wasted air.

      • TBW

Your statement would also preclude your opinion as being “…nothing but wasted air.” too… Just saying…

    • dianegirard

Gina, who appointed you the arbiter of “normal”?

  • Sceptic

um, they knew of a pregnancy 30 days after they got married? It’s next to impossible to know for sure you’re pregnant that soon. #virginsceptic

    • Pooch

Exactly. And no first time mom has a baby bump (pictured on the cover of a magazine) at around SEVEN weeks after supposed conception. Most of us don’t show til 5 months. I guess a lot can be achieved with side hugs, huh?

    • Christine

You are wrong. It is not next to impossible to know if you are pregnant 30 days after conception. She could’ve possibly
got pregnant on her wedding night and missed a period 2 weeks later.
This can be determined by a urine test. However, an ultrasound cannot
detect a pregnancy until AT LEAST 6 weeks after conception. (I’m an ultrasound tech….I know!) This would
mean either A….she’s announcing a pregnancy based on a simple urine
test. Or B….she had an ultrasound to POSITIVELY determine pregnancy which means
she would’ve gotten pregnant at least 2 weeks BEFORE her wedding. Either way, I think
it’s very precarious to announce something so personal to the media
during the time in which most miscarriages happen. She should’ve waited
until after the 12th week to announce it. Congrats anyway :)

  • kelly

Congrats Jill and Derrick. May you have a happy and healthy baby. So happy for you two…. :) Love your show and cant wait to see the wedding aired.

  • rather

I wonder if they are going to go for all D names

  • Dee

You CAN know after a month. Getting pregnant on the wedding night happens more often then you would think. For anyone to judge and say such horrible things about a young woman and her family is just sick.
As for the comments about doing it for the ratings of the show 19 kids and counting, the show doesn’t need help in ratings it has aire for years and is still going strong even though Jim Bob and Michelle has not had a baby in over four years now. So maybe you should watch the show before you say they force their kids to do anything because they do not. They raise their kids with good Christian morals and values and teach them to make choices in life that they will not later in life look back and wish they had done differently. Sounds like not only like good parenting and living their life for the Lord but teaching their childern to do the same. They are not and have never been on any government assistants. They work hard to support their family and to teach their childern to do the same. Any of you who have anything bad to say about the Duggers should take a look at your own life before casting the first stone!
