Disney's Jessie will soon be stepping on new ground for a Disney Channel television series.
The lead character Jessie, played by Debby Ryan, will soon become engaged on the show, during a four-episode arc that will mark the finale of season three.
Jessie is about a 22-year-old woman that moved from Texas to New York to pursue an acting career. However, upon arriving in New York, she lands a job as a nanny for a family with adopted children from India, Africa and America.
Adam Bonnett, Disney Channel's executive vice president of original programming, revealed that Jessie will be the first lead character to become engaged on the children's network. "Jessie is an adult, and we felt we could tackle this in a way that still feels appropriate for our audience," Bonnett said.
During this season, Jessie falls in love with her boyfriend Brooks, played by Pierson Fode. Bonnett explained that they kept the relationship very innocent, and showed them bonding over picnics and walks in the park. "The way we deal with this romance is very pure Disney fairy tale," Bonnett said.

Bonnett also explained that, although the children will not be getting engaged anytime soon, they can still relate to the story line. "Our audience isn't dealing with somebody proposing to them, but they are dealing with choices they have to make in their life, and thinking things through, following their heart and wanting to make the right choice," he said.
Jessie averages a weekly audience of 2.9 million viewers. The targeted age is between 6-11, but the show also draws attention from the "tween" group of 9-14.
