Attorneys for former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura have requested that a federal judge allow Ventura’s defamation case against the estate of Chris Kyle to proceed. In his memoir, American Sniper, Kyle, a former U.S. Navy Seal known as the most lethal sniper in history, recollected a 2006 confrontation with Ventura.

Kyle, upset by negative comments Ventura had made about President George W. Bush and the Iraq War, punched the former professional wrestler in the face. In American Sniper, Kyle identifies Ventura only as “Scruff Face,” a celebrity ex-SEAL who opposed the war in Iraq and believed that 9/11 was a conspiracy. In subsequent statements, Kyle made it clear that “Scruff Face” was indeed Ventura.

Ventura attorney David Bradley Olsen asserts that Ventura has the right to “protect and repair” his reputation, and that Kyle’s widow, Taya, will profit from the continued use of the story, including from a recently announced Steven Spielberg biopic of Kyle, in which Bradley Cooper is rumored to play the title role. Kyle’s estate has countered that the continuance of the case will “serve no useful purpose” and will cast Ventura as a man with little regard for the “surviving family members of deceased war heroes.”

Kyle is officially credited with 160 confirmed kills, as well as another 95 claimed but unconfirmed kills, the most in American military history. On February 2, 2013, Kyle and a friend were killed at a shooting range in Erath County, Texas. Marine veteran Eddie Ray Routh is being held in suspicion of the killings.

Jesse Ventura should leave the widow alone. She’s got enough problems without this attack on an innocent woman. Obviously, Jesse Ventura has no sense of honor. He has supported the description made.

  • gary

This scum bag ought to slither back to hos snake den and live with the other snakes in American history…Benedict Arnold,Obama,Reid,Pelosi..You get what I mean!

    • Mike

You left out Bush and Cheney!

  • Rand

No real man would go after a widow for some beef he had with the deceased husband. I have no respect for Mr. Ventura. None whatsoever.

  • George B

Those who live by the sword, shall die by the sword. AMEN !

    • Jason H

      What an incredibly ignorant comment.

    • T R

      total idiotic comment…useless

    • http://yahoo dandd

Funny until you want the police to come and protect you or our country is being attacked then you want the military all over it!! A little self righteous don’t you think??

  • Ken Robley

I’ve always thought that part of being a special forces soldier was “Keeping Your Mouth Shut”. You don’t write a tell-all book, go on the talk show circuit, or consult for a video game. The account of Kyle punching Ventura reads like a bit of shameless self promotion–particularly as he identifies Ventura as a “celebrity ex-SEAL”, first calling him “scruff face”, later admitting he was talking about Ventura. Personally, I’d hope that a SEAL would be more disciplined than to punch someone he disagreed with. Since Kyle was playing up this incident to advance his career at Ventura’s expense IMO Ventura is entitled to compensation. As a sidebar, I also have to wonder what Kyle was thinking when he took a troubled vet to a firing range & gave him a handgun.

    • Jason H

Ventura and his conspiracy lunacy ideas merit having his lights punched out.

      • Ken Robley

Maybe, but Freedom of Speech doesn’t mean “only for the people you agree with.”

        • Jason H

Words have consequences. Freedom of speech does not afford the right to say something vile or offensive. If you disrespect someone, particularly a SEAL, its probably not going to go too well for you. You can disagree without being offensive or disrespectful. Reportedly, Ventura chose not to do so.

          • http://yahoo p

freedom of speech is just that, you can say whatever the hell you want, the constitution doesn’t clarify what you can and cant say, or it wouldn’t be much of a freedom. In this tight butted over pcd culture we live in its getting down right impossible to know whats right and wrong

          • Mike

“Freedom of speech does not afford the right to say something vile or offensive.”

            It doesn’t?

        • http://yahoo dandd

Then why is Jessie suing a widow?? Wasn’t it something her now deceased husband said? Wasn’t that his freedom as well. Why do these so called famous people run their mouths all day long but when someone says something about them they turn into the biggest crybabies. So sick and tired of all these crybabies!! Toughen up and get a thicker skin people we’ve got real problems going on in our country right now!

  • http://webpronews Charles

Jessie Ventura does have a point about 911 being a false flag attack however.

  • AJ

What a scum bag. This is why he is known as Jesse ‘The Body” Ventura and not Jesse ” The Brain” Ventura. Must have taken too many hits to the head. I wonder how many times his reputation and image were destroyed while he was famous in WWE. How many insults he swallowed from his wrestling career! His dispute was with the navy seal. Let the man’s widow live in PEACE now that he is dead.

  • mitcbastid

Ventura is an obnoxious blowhard who brags about his military service, implying that he is a combat vet – which he most emphatically is NOT. He is an insult to real combat vets. Kyle punched that punk’s lights out, and if you want a real laugh, YouTube Jim Norton shutting that blowhard down with words.

    • Chu

I agree. It’s kinda like going after a guy who served in the Mekong Delta on a swift boat taking shore to shore crossfire while at the same time supporting a guy who stayed at home with his rich daddy and did rails off of a hooker’s smooth and creamy bodonk so he could occasionally go AWOL on his cushy job buzzing the skies over that dangerous air space over the southern United States.

  • anthony

Chris Kyle did a string of media appearances promoting his book that was published through a company owned by FOX NEWS and NEWS CORP(who have a grudge with Jesse)and he went on to make up a story about Jesse Ventura saying “he thinks soldiers deserve to die” and he punched him in the face over it.

Well once Jesse Ventura filed a lawsuit over it and FOX NEWS and NEWS CORP realized Chris Kyle might throw them under the bus about having him make up the story.. He conveniently died at the hands of a crazy soldier at shooting range.

News Corp and Fox News wanted to discredit Jesse Ventura and it was about to backfire on them, so they killed an American War hero to cover there tracks.

    • http://yahoo dandd

Conveniently dies??? You really are not living among the sane. Step away from the Jessie pushers and think for yourself. Really conveniently dies?? Unreal!!

      • anthony

He was conveniently murdered. Does that help you.. Doesn’t take away from the fact that everything I said was valid. And all you did to prove your point, was resort to empty criticism.

So while I look at the whole story and form an opinion after viewing all the information. You take the word of one article and have the nerve to tell me to use my own knowledge. You’re a hypocrite plain and simple.

  • Eugene Stoner

Ventura was in UDT, and wasn’t in any SEAL team. At that time UDT was separate from SEALs…and Ventura knows that. He has only been a blowhard and if anyone is guilty of self-promotion it is he. He made a crappy governor and is truly an oddball with eccentric ideas. He “sounded” like he could take charge and get Minnesota on a firm footing but he didn’t. He’s another liberal posing as a libertarian. He’s a putz!

    • anthony

Kyle filed a petition to have the case moved to U.S. District Court in St. Paul. Ventura considered dropping the case but after being contacted by several prominent former US Navy Seals, was “ordered” to go ahead with the lawsuit after Kyle failed to agree to a settlement that would have seen him admit to lying and pay attorney fees.

One of those ex-SEALs is Ventura’s former instructor, the widely respected Terry “Mother” Moy, owner of the bar where the incident is alleged to have occurred.

After investigating the incident, Moy and his fellow SEALs confirmed that the event never took place and that Kyle had invented it to generate publicity for his book.

An added reason for their support of Ventura is the fact that they are sick of seeing Navy SEALs stab each other in the back for profit

  • Call me, Carlos

Yo, Jesse… Stop giving us old men a bad name. Get over it, already. Move on with, what’s left of your life

  • Arnulfo Tibus

Jess, you were a professional soldier, a public official, a sportman and really a guy who made it through life. “Let the dead past bury its dead,” as the saying goes. I believe you are a good man (especially when you put that spoiled-lime mouth British ingrate PIERCE Morgan back to the cesspool where he belong)and I am convinced leaving grieving Mrs. Kyle alone will leave you high and more esteemed before your fellow US citizens. This is not a blessed excuse for miskate but alas, we all them as we go on with the daily grind of life.

  • nick angel

Is it not an unwritten law that the dead – whether sinner or saint — are to be revered? To make an issue with the dead ( who
cannot answer back anymore looks strange. The widow has nothing to
do with the matter – logically.

  • Jaime Cancio

I meet Jesse Ventura at a Bakersfield Business Conference years ago. Photographed him and talked with him. I liked his speech and presentation. The reality, with the continuation of a law suit against the estate of a dead man and therefor punishment of his widow and family I have lost any and all respect for Ventura. He has a right to defend himself against the man’s claim; the widow had no party to this and is no way accountable. Out of simple respect Ventura should drop this law suit as it serves no purpose but to injure and innocent party. If Ventura continues with this law suit; my toilet paper will have more respect than Jesse Ventura will ever have again.

  • Jim

It appears that Ventura is a psychotic dirt bag

  • vern jenson

Let me see. If I had to depend on either a fake wrestler or a real hero such as Chris Kyle to watch my back, who would I pick. That’s a toughie. I would have to go overwhelmingly with a real American hero such as Chris Kyle. Jesse must be going broke. Too bad that he no longer can get on Larry Kings show. Kyle fought real people who meant to harm, not punch drunk thugs like Jesse did in the ring. Where is Vince McMahon

  • http://jeeseventura jane

no judge should allow that shit in a court room after all these years , and second america is gonna back her up !!!! so don’t go there !

  • dennis

Ventura’s claim is that Kyle lied. Kyle’s widow cannot attest to the validity of what was written in the book not can anyone else. I can’t see how continuing this lawsuit is going to help Ventura in the least. If Ventura doesn’t drop this PR nightmare he better go back to wrestling for a living.

Jesse Ventura is a liar, cheat, bully, and briber. He defrauded the people of Minnesota to become Governor by lying about being a Navy SEAL He was not a SEAL, never in Vietnam, never in combat. He does not have the Combat Action Ribbon. He was a storekeeper on a ship that passed the Vietnam coastline so he was entitled to the Vietnam Service Medal. No big deal there.
Ventura bribed a guy during the primary election in the summer of 1998 and when complaints were filed against him he bribed officials to fix the investigation. This is all documented in my expose’ book, ALWAYS CHEAT The Philosophy of Jesse Ventura. The release of my book in the spring of 2002 cancelled Ventura’s plans to run for a second term as Minnesota Governor. Contact me for a complimentary book or get one from Amazon.com
    Leslie Davis
P.S. Why does Alex Jones keep lying about Ventura being a SEAL?

  • Jack

I saw the dead guy on tv a few times, looked like a guy only thinking about himself and desperately on the make. Would not trust someone like that for a minute. His wife was also on a couple of times, she is a cold fish and seemed a sharpie businesswoman. Jesse is no Einstein but still savvy and he is what he seems. He was punched or the guy claimed he did and then wrote bad things about him, all out of the blue to generate publicity for the couple on the make. I don’t go by labels, just watch people carefully and all comes through.

  • clam mm it

Jesse “The Flabby” Ventura, was a half ass SEAL. He never saw combat action. And he was never named in the book American Sniper. The Puss outed himself…and only AFTER he OUTED HIMSELF did Kyle ever mention his name! Ventura…you keep this pussy shit up…Karma is going to hit you HARD! It will destroy you! In the most fantastic way…like the Hatfield’s & McCoy’s….except it will be America against the Ventura’s! You readty for that punk? Shit, I will destroy you single handedly if need be. But I have too many people on my side….the right side….
