The Jersey Devil is back in the "news" as a security guard in New Jersey's Pinelands reportedly snapped a photo (seen in the tweet below) and sent it to

The publication received the photo and an email from the man, named Dave Black, who at first thought he saw a llama while driving by a golf course. He reportedly told them in the email:

"If that wasn't enough, then it spread out leathery wings and flew off over the golf course."

Apparently Black too a handful of photos, but the one you see is the only one that came out. The man swears it wasn't photoshopped or staged, and claims he's just looking for a reasonable explanation.

Black is also quoted as saying:

"The mind plays tricks on you. A friend suggested that maybe it was an animal running and an owl grabbed it, the photo being a combination of them. That's still not my first instinct, but I don't know how to explain it otherwise...I think I saw a large, flying mammal about the size of a deer." also posted this video, which it says was taken by Emily Martin in Leeds Point. It's unclear when that is supposed to have happened:

Naturally, people are skeptical.

These stories have been going on for centuries. Here's a picture that appeared in a Philadelphia newspaper in 1909:
