Jennifer Connelly was just a teenager when she appeared in Labyrinth alongside the late David Bowie. On Monday she--along with countless others--mourned the passing of the actor and musician.

“I met David Bowie when I was 14 and he became a hero to me–because he was an artist, and because he was a genius who had the time to be kind,” Connelly said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “I’d never met such an extraordinary artist before, and I haven’t since--the world will be a grayer place without him. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

It was almost 30 years ago when David Bowie starred in his role as Jareth in Labyrinth. Jennifer Connelly played Sarah, whose younger brother was stolen away by Jareth while she was babysitting. Connelly's character had to complete Jareth's labyrinth within 11 hours to prevent her little brother from turning into a goblin.

David Bowie's untimely passing from cancer on Sunday hit those close to him--as well as his fans--hard. Jennifer Connelly is blessed to have these memories of him stored safely in her heart and mind.
