Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks’ split was quite surprising for fans.

Usually there’s a series of rumors leading up to high-profile splits, but in this case, things seemed to have ended abruptly.

However, the famed “Ridin’ Solo” singer has revealed his relationship with Jordin didn’t end as abruptly as it all appeared. On Monday, Sept. 29, Jason opened up about his split from his long-time girlfriend on On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

He admitted the pressures of marriage played a major role in their decision to part ways. “What happened … in a nutshell, there was a lot of tension in the relationship for a lot of different reasons,” he said.

“Every relationship has ups and downs. There was a lot of pressures of marriage. There was a lot of arguing and stuff like that that just weighed on our relationship over time. When you stop having more good times than bad times, it’s time to call it quits. It becomes something that is unhealthy.”

Now that they’ve split, rumors are circulating about why. Of course, several media outlets have speculated that cheating was the reason for the breakup.

So, the 25-year-old singer decided to refute all of the rumors and offer clarity about the situation.

“Due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment,” Derulo said. “I spent three great years with Jordin and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met.”

The Talk Dirty singer made it clear that cheating played no part in their split. He also stated that he and Jordin split “amicably.”

“But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part. Infidelity, cheating or deceit played no part in our relationship or our break-up,” he continued. “And I hope that people respect our privacy as we move forward with our lives.”
