CalacanisCast, a weekly media, tech, finance podcast will launch in November as part of the PodTech network. The show’s sponsorships, thus far totaling $100,000, will be donated to Bay Ridge Preparatory School to provide private schooling for underprivileged children.

The concept of media philanthropy in podcasting first surfaced in Jason Calacanis’ blog earlier this month.

Apparently the idea caught on pretty fast.

In his keynote address at the Blog Business Summit today, Jason announced that his media philanthropy model would be taking shape in the form of CalacanisCast, a weekly media, tech and finance podcast sponsored by GoDaddy.

In an e-mail conversation today, Jason told me that GoDaddy agreed to come on board as a sponsor, “45 minutes after I blogged about the idea.”

Finding a home for CalacanisCast would present very little trouble. Jason divulges, “I’ve had a number of folks contact me since I joined the Gillmor Gang podcast.”

Finally, he would settle on PodTech, known for notable podcasts such as ScobleShow, to serve as host for his new podcasting venture.

CalacanisCast boasts first year sponsorships totaling $100,000, all slated for donation to Bay Ridge Preparatory School where Calacanis currently serves as a board member.

“This fund is a wonderful gift to the school and to the students selected to receive a unique, four-year private school education that emphasizes a respect for education, teamwork, and individual success”, says Charles Fasano, Ph.D., Executive Director of Bay Ridge Prep in a press release on Jason’s blog.

Additional sponsors of CalacanisCast will be announced in the coming weeks as the show nears its November launch.

On a personal note, I will definitely be tuning in to every episode of the show. How can one not support such a worthy philanthropic effort? My only hope is that more charity-driven ventures such as this will start springing up in cyberspace.

Until then, my hat is off to you, Jason. Good show indeed.
