Jared Leto is a member of the cast of Suicide Squad, a film directed by David Ayer about a team of comic book super-villains who take on nearly-doomed missions in exchange for shorter prison sentences. The comic book favorite has been the topic of much rumor for at least the past year, with hints and red herrings galore about who might end up on the final cast list.

Jared Leto will be playing Batman’s nemesis The Joker. And for that role, Leto needed to have his long locks lopped. So director David ayer memorialized the shearing by posting before and after pics on Twitter, where everyone could wallow in the tragedy.

As for the rest of Suicide Squad, we know that Margot Robbie and Will Smith are in. Robbie will be playing Batman regular Harley Quinn. Will Smith is in as Deadshot. Cara Delevingne will be Enchantress, and Viola Davis plays Amanda Waller, the head of the secret government agency that creates the Suicide Squad.

Rumors are still flying that Jesse Eisenberg will be Superman villain Lex Luthor. After playing Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, one can only hope that Eisenberg will not wind up being typecast as playing powerful executives who use their wealth to wreak evil and bend the world to their will.

Comic book fans have been clamoring for any little piece of news from the Suicide Squad camp. What they got today was Jared Leto’s haircut. It’s something.
