  • Janelle Monae has posted her full new album “The Electric Lady” ahead of it’s September 10th release date on VH1.com. Check out the video for “Q.U.E.E.N.” with Erykah Badu. Funk, soul, jazz and gospel contribute to the musical style, produced by Deep Cotton and Roman GianArthur and released through Bad Boy Records. Following up on 2010’s critical smash “ArchAndroid,” the singer’s second studio album will be the fourth and fifth installment of her seven-part Metropolis concept series and will carry through the themes of a cyborg utopia. Awesome.

Luke O’Neill of MTV’s Buzzworthy blog says,

“While we might normally say that it’s a bit ambitious for anyone to subtly compare themselves to Jimi Hendrix in their album title, in the case of Janelle MonĂ¡e’s The Electric Lady, we’re not even a little bit mad. Janelle’s second full length, which is streaming now on VH1, has all the vocal pyrotechnics of an epic guitar solo, but leaves room enough for danceable R&B grooves, hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae, and film score touches. The latter fits in particularly well, seeing as The Electric Lady is a continuation of the sci-fi cyborg thematic storyline she began on The ArchAndroid.”

“The Electric Lady” is deliciously crammed with collaborators such as Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange, and Miguel. Here’s her video for “Dance Apocalyptic”
