Florida State University’s freshmen quarterback is currently being investigated for a sexual assault case filed with the Tallahassee Police Department back on December 7th, 2012. This 11-month-old case reopened Wednesday when TMZ claimed that Winston “is indeed the suspect,” even though the official TPD report describes the perpetrator as 5’11”, compared to Winston’s 6’4″ frame.

Winston’s attorney confirmed with the Tallahassee Democrat that he is representing Jameis in this investigation, although he says this case has been “basically closed” since February and no one is sure why it’s been reopened. Could it be that the 19-year-old athlete is now ranked #2 in country for passing efficiency and is the frontrunner for the Heisman trophy? It seems it was only a matter of time before the media began digging around for dirt on this emerging star. Jameis supporters have already taken to twitter to call out TMZ on their lack of factual evidence:

Despite the claim, no official charges have been filed. The FSU Athletic Department was forced to release an official statement earlier clarifying that “there is no change in Winston’s status” on the team following the allegations. It looks like Winston will be throwing completions for Florida State for a long time coming.

  • Wow

You made an error in your article. It is not the “victim” described as being 5’10” it is the perpetrator. Winston is 6′ 4″.

This is the direct quote from ESPN — “The incident report does not name Winston and describes the offender as being between 5-foot-9 and 5-11. Winston is listed by Florida State as being 6-4.”

TMZ is a trash organization anyway and most attackers are known to their victims. I always find it odd when random things come out. At least it isn’t one of these cases where a woman gets drunk off her ass, screws around, and then claims rape. That is happening a lot on college campuses. Women are drinking like fish. Those of you who haven’t been to college recently would be surprised to know that women are drinking much more than men now. I know that is being reported nationally, but many people don’t understand just how much it is happening. A lot of men are being falsely accused of rape. We just had a case at my school. The guy would have gone to prison too but there was tape of the whole incident and she was proven to be a liar.

The error has been corrected, thank you.

It does seem a shame that TMZ is going such lengths to make these claims.
