Professional wrestling legend Jake The Snake Roberts recently revealed that he has cancer. The 58 year old found a growth on his leg and went to a doctor to have it checked out. The doctor confirmed Roberts’ fear and diagnosed him with cancer. The cancer is slowly growing into the muscle in Roberts’ leg and will need to be removed with surgery. That surgery was scheduled for today.
Roberts’ real name is Aurelian Smith, Jr, but he is better known by his ring name, Jake The Snake Roberts. Roberts wrestled in the WWF, NWA and WCW in the 80’s and early 90’s. He also made appearances for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling from 2006 through 2008. Roberts wrestled his retirement match on January 29, 2011.
Roberts seemed hopeful about the surgery and is ready for it all to be over so he can begin healing.
“If the devil can’t defeat me, cancer doesn’t stand a chance in hell! Pray for sick children who face this horrible disease ’cause The Snake will be just fine,” he said.
Roberts’ toughest battles in his life weren’t in the ring and he has admitted to having drug and alcohol problems in the past. He credits former professional wrestler Diamond Dallas Page with his recovery and now claims to be clean and sober.
If Roberts can beat his drug and alcohol addiction, he should have no problem beating this cancer as well. Before going in for surgery, Roberts vowed that he would recover and be ready for a match with Jersey Championship Wrestling on March 13 and the WWE Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony in April.
Are you a fan of Jake The Snake Roberts and do you think he will recover in time to make it to these two events?
