For those of you who followed the series to its completion, you already know that two of the main characters Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger ended up romantically involved. While many loved the ending, more people were upset that Hermione did not end up with the famous wizard Harry Potter, who she was so perfectly made for.

Now, it seems as though Rowling is having the same thoughts, and is second guessing the fates she created for Ron, Hermione, and Harry.

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That’s how it was conceived, really,” Rowling said during an interview with Emma Watson, who played Hermione, for Wonderland magazine. “For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

Surprisingly, when Rowling voiced her regrets, Harry Potter fans were outraged, and took to their social media accounts to vent. “WTF ROWLING! I recently read your statements with Wonderland magazine about Ron and Hermione’s relationship, and I’m rather annoyed,” one Twitter user wrote. “I get that the series has been finished for years, but it sucks that you would release a statement ripping apart one of the best couples ever. Seriously, EVER.”

Rowling later tried to clear the air, informing fans that she was just being honest. “I know, I’m sorry,” she said. “I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

In the final book of the series, it is revealed that Ron and Hermione were married and had two children. It’s funny how things worked out for the couple, especially considering Rowling almost killed off the red headed wizard half-way through the series.

“Funnily enough, I planned from the start that none of them would die. Then midway through, which I think was a reflection that I wasn’t in a very happy place, I started thinking I might punish one of them off. Out of sheer spite,” she explained. “In my absolute heart of hearts of hearts—although I did seriously consider killing…Ron.”
