The Search Engine Strategies 2006 conference in San Jose begins today, and we plan to bring some inside coverage of the sessions to our readers throughout the week as a variety of noteworthy speakers deliver valuable insights to attendees.
SES San Jose Opens Today
The launch of SES 2006 brings host and Search Engine Watch writer Danny Sullivan back to San Jose.
This year, it is the conference's new owner, Incisive Media, that will put on the show following its purchase of SES from Jupitermedia in 2005. Sullivan will have one of the most prominent names in the search engine industry with him on stage on Wednesday.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt will join him for a conversation, in a morning session where they will discuss Google's "growing and dealing with challenges and issues in search." We anticipate a friendly session between the two, but it could be interesting if Sullivan brings up the topic of AOL's disclosure of search data generated by hundreds of thousands of AOL users.
There will be plenty to take in during the four days of the conference. To get a closer look at the proceedings, a couple of WebProNews staffers, managing editor Mike McDonald and staff writer Doug Caverly, will attend some select sessions and provide us with the insider view of those talks. SES 2006 has sessions scheduled on five different tracks for attendees.
Tracks will change each day, to provide attendees with as broad a look at the search engine industry and related topics as possible. Monday's first tracks will cover these issues: Fundamentals will provide a "Search Engine 101" look at search and its utility for businesses. Stats & Research will cover what to do with the information a business gathers with its search data.
The Social Search track discusses the ways people interact with search and each other online, and should demonstrate to businesses how they might find it useful to their enterprises. Advanced Advertising handles those thorny issues that businesses encounter now that they have started online advertising, and need to make it even more productive. Incisive Media's ClickZ Network has a dedicated track during the first day of this year's conference.
They will look at marketing with online video and social media; communication with customers; and metric measurements during the track. Sessions on advertising, issues, and local search will be among the many featured at SES 2006. Check back with WebProNews through the week to get our perspective of the conference, too.
