  • The death of Joan Rivers shocked the world, including many of her closest celebrity friends.

While everyone mourned the loss of the comedian, many also decided to celebrate her life at her memorial service at New York’s Temple Emanu-El.

The memorial service was over the top, just like Rivers would have wanted. A lot of people talked about Rivers and her successful career, including Howard Stern, who reportedly cried like a baby at the funeral.

He eventually managed to pull it together to make everyone laugh for a few minutes during what was an undoubtedly sad time.

According to comedian Margaret Cho, Stern joked about Rivers’ private parts and while for a split second everyone at the memorial service felt a tad bit uncomfortable, they all quickly remembered that Joan would have laughed at the joke and they all laughed as well.

“Stern opened with an off-color joke about Rivers’ genitalia, and I started laughing hysterically, and everyone else, remembering who we were there to honor, followed suit,” Cho said.

“It was so wrong but so right at the same time,” she added. “So Joan. So great.”

Stern also talked about Rivers on his show saying,

“She was so gracious and nice, and made me feel like I was part of show business, which quite frankly I never feel like I am. I’m really, really, really rocked by her death. It was a very upsetting time when I’d heard that she died.”

The funeral, he said, was “the most remarkable service I had ever been witness to.”

Rivers died while undergoing a minor elective surgery. After an elaborate memorial service, she was cremated.
