Conrad Black and his Hollinger International company are under a criminal investigation from U.S. federal prosecutors.

Black and his former deputy David Radler who are currently facing a civil lawsuit from the SEC as well, have been accused of fraudulently taking $85 million from Hollinger International.

According to a GLOBEANDMAIL.COM article,

“The probe was revealed in documents filed in a Chicago court by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. In an unusual move, the government prosecutor is seeking an order from the district court to temporarily deny Lord Black and others access to certain unidentified evidence in a civil suit filed last year by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Handing over the document, the court filing says, would ‘impair the government’s criminal investigation.’”

The prosecutors don’t want the papers released until August 1.

According to a BBC article, “Hollinger Inc’s lawyer Nathan Eimer said his client wanted 150 boxes of documents from the SEC and did not know which ones the Attorney’s office wants to block.”
