Hitwise has released data looking at the 20 most popular websites for September, ranked by market share of visits. I don’t think you’ll be very surprised with number 1.

Hitwise Top 20

Amit Agarwal notes that Gmail is ranked third out of four email properties on the list, though Google itself is clearly the dominant force. It’s interesting to see a total of 6 Yahoo properties on the list though, with only 4 from Google (including YouTube).

It will be interesting to see if the new social element Yahoo has added will affect the popularity of some of their list popular ones. We’ll see how it shakes out next time around.

Well, I can see in the future that Gmail will move up the ladder for ranking as more people start to use it and with the large database of users, it will be in Top 5. I am seeing more of my clients and visitors sending emails using Gmail.

Howdy readers. I am from Australia, and surprised to see an AOL site on there…

I have never heard one single good thing or positive statement about that company. How on earth do they still exist? They sound like limiting control freaks, who provide internet for morons.

Sorry, no offense if you use this company or are from AOL, but let me tell ya… You guys need to work on your image big-time. That is what it sounds like from here, and a lot of the bad comments I have heard are from your users.

Who is using Google Reader? Google and Yahoo seem to both have a lot of great stuff going on at the moment, which is great. I am particularly impressed with Foxytunes and yahoo music’s new partnership/collaboration.
