  • Hilary Duff has released her first single in six years, along with an accompanying music video.

The single, Chasing the Sun, which was co-written by Toby Gad, Colbie Caillat and Jason Reeves, was released on Monday, July 28.

The video starts with Duff sitting in her office, daydreaming while reading a vacation magazine. Duff is then seen imagining herself on the beach with a hunky guy, but awakes abruptly when she accidentally runs into a glass window during a business meeting.

“[This song is] just a peek into my new album,” Duff said of her new single. “I’ve worked very hard and the album is a great representation of the experiences I’ve had in my life and where I want to go from here.”

Duff hasn’t released an album since her 2007 album Dignity. Since then, she has mainly been focusing on acting, appearing on television shows Two and a Half Men and Raising Hope.

Hilary has also been focusing most of her time on motherhood. In 2010, Duff married hockey player Mike Comrie, and they later welcomed their first child Luca Cruz Comrie. Earlier this year, Duff and Comrie announced that they would be separating.

“Hilary Duff and husband Mike Comrie have mutually decided to an amicable separation,” Duff’s rep said at the time. “They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.”
