CBS has released a teaser trailer for their new summer series Extant. The sci-fi drama stars Halle Berry as Astronaut Molly Watts who is returning from space after a 13 month solo mission. The very short clip doesn't tell us what or whom returned with Watts (possibly a baby). We do know that something came back from space with her. There's also a very terrified look on her face as the trailer closes. The show is being produced by Steven Spielberg's company Amblin Entertainment.
Here's a plot synopsis for the series taken from IMDB.com: An astronaut (Berry) returns home from a year long solo mission in space. She tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.
CBS ordered 13 episodes of the summer series without the benefit of a pilot. The premiere date is set for July 9.
Spielberg said of landing Berry for Extant, "There’s only one Halle Berry and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen Extant to expand her illustrious career. As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her.” CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler added, "Halle is the type of award-winning actress you dream of collaborating with for an event project such as Extant.”
