  • Grace Jones has not been a relevant force in pop music in the United States for quite some time now. The last time she was heard much on the radio here was her 1986 single “I’m Not Perfect.”

Jones was an art and fashion scene icon for years, influencing the cross-dressing movement in pop music also inhabited by the likes of Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics. She was the epitome of fierce. Her Jamaican complexion, angular features, and 5′ 10″ frame stood her in stark contrast to the more “feminine” looks of the day.

Grace Jones has still been a force in Europe, particularly in the electronic dance music scene. At the age of 67, she is a matriarch of sorts for the subculture of cross-dressing, androgynous, clubbing society.

But Grace Jones just made headlines on this side of the pond for a simple reason, something that usually only gets you noticed if you are a young starlet. Grace Jones set her boobs loose on stage.

The scene of the spectacle was at the Barclaycard British Summertime festival (BST) in Hyde Park on Sunday. The week-long event would feature Taylor Swift and The Who. Kylie Minogue was headlining the event that day. Grace Jones opened for Minogue. Other artists on the bill included Foxes, Mika and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers.

While Kylie Minogue certainly drew loads of attention, what had Twitter all a-flitter was Jones. The 67-year-old was sporting body paint, high heels, various headdresses and outfits.

“My nipples are sweaty,” Grace Jones announced to the crowd, “the paint is coming off. Has anyone got a spliff for me?”

Camera phones were out and pics of Jones’ free breasts were made available for the masses.
