Google has made an effort to help educate senior citizens about online safety and privacy issues. The company has teamed up with AARP, for an online safety video series on display on the Google Privacy YouTube channel.

"The number of older Americans using the Internet has skyrocketed. The collaboration with Google will help educate our members about Internet safety so the Internet can enhance our members’ lives," said Nancy LeaMond, AARP’s Executive Vice President of Social Impact.

I am immediately reminded of my Grandma talking about clicking on those "ads" for free meals from restaurants and being bombarded with spyware and spam. It is a good thing that they’re taking the initiative to teach older people about the woes of the Internet. Privacy is always a huge concern, and a generation less familiar with issues related to it is bound to be full of easy targets.

"Record numbers of older Americans are going online to surf the web, connect with family and friends, share photos, and run online businesses," said Shuman Ghosemajumder, Google’s Business Product Manager for Trust and Safety. "We hope the Online Safety video series will help AARP members keep their online information safe, private, and under their control."

The videos cover subjects like password safety, phishing scams, reputation management, etc. Unfortunately, many are still concerned about their privacy from Google. Street view cameras appearing at the front doors of senior citizen homes is not a subject addressed in the video series.

Very nice of them to help old people educated on online security.  For those who trick the old, shame on you.

I think it is very important to protect our seniors, and anyone else that is prone to being absused in technology or otherwise.
