Google has introduced a Mac version of its photo album application, Picasa, at Macworld in San Francisco.

Google previously offered a standalone Picasa Web Albums uploader and an iPhoto plugin fro Mac users. The company says Picasa for Mac brings all of the advanced sharing and synch features of Picasa to the millions of Mac OS X users.

The Google Photos Blog provides more details. "Picasa for Mac looks and works almost exactly like Picasa on other platforms. It can keep track of photo files scattered across your hard drives, and will automatically account for new photos as you add them to your system. Picasa for Mac also features non-destructive editing, so you can explore different photo adjustments and effects without worry."

Google says in developing Picasa for Mac it "tried to make sure it ‘plays nice’ with iPhoto."

Picasa for Mac is being released as a Google Labs product and is currently in beta. Google is asking Mac users for feedback on how Picasa performs on their Macs and what other features they would like to see.
