A new plug-in from Santa Cruz Networks, called “Eye Candy” enables Google Talk users to see who they’re talking to. At the same time it disables all “5’10 curvy 34 D blondes” from lying to their online boyfriends.

Taking a cue from their success with a similar Skype plug-in that netted 2.75 million downloads, Santa Cruz Networks launched the Festoon update, downloadable for free and sponsor-supported, allowing Google Talk users to see each other, share applications, and engage in “immersive” video experiences. The plug-in can enable up to 200 users to interact face-to-face.

“We are redefining the video experience for the digital lifestyle with
unparalleled group communications and personalization,” said Santa Cruz
Networks CEO Itzik Cohen. “Like cell phone ringtones, Festoon’s ‘EyeCandy’ enables users to uniquely express themselves with immersive video effects as they talk.”

A representative from Google says the company is committed to making it as easy as possible to communicate with friends though the client of their choosing.

Festoon offers group voice capabilities through GIPS audio codec, which is also used by Google Talk, Skype, and AIM Triton. Future releases will offer more video effects and access to Santa Cruz Networks’ library of camera personalities (for the personality challenged) and wallpapers.

Santa Cruz Networks is currently working with all major presence networks to add group communications to Skype, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Instant Messenger, and MSN Messenger.
