  1. PR depends upon number of quality backlinks, how come sudden drop? Are people removing the links to google.com? Drop in PR related to investigations is hard to buy. Hope Google comes up with some explanation

    • Agreed about the investigations, but interesting timing and part of the discussion, nevertheless.

    • I think it’s more of a relativity thing. According to Alexa, Facebook has 1.2 million sites linking to it while Google has 704,402. Since those stats are compiled from people using the Alexa toolbar, we all know the numbers are much larger, but the percentages are probably about the same.

So, if you’re just looking at links, Facebook would be more important than Google. But Google gets more visits than Facebook and remains the No. 1 site worldwide.

Facebook’s work with its Like button and the fact that businesses having a FB presence is now standard has clearly led to it getting more links. The AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget page still has a 10 too for the sole reason that tons and tons of people use the widget on their sites.

Anyway, I’m no shilling, but I did write more about it here: http://www.danconia.com/facebook-pagerank-google.html

  2. My PR for my webshop bumped from a 2 to 4. My blog went from 3 to 1. Funny to see some really big sites in the Netherlands going down :)

  3. thank you. my PR went from 0 to 3 in one day, and I was wondering why…

  4. If PR doesn’t mean much in terms of relevancy to search than other signals do then what’s the big deal anyways?

  5. It was good to see a small rise from #2 to #3 in my blog’s page rank yesturday. Although I havent been able to do any backlinking or promoting of my Automotive Blog. Anyways, Thanks Google!

  8. Well what can I say, it is true that many webmaster worry too much about Google PR, in fact I want to share my personal experience with this last update, Just like (Spencer comment) I did nothing promoting my website or getting back link lately, and somehow my website jump from PR 1-3, and the rest of the entire side also shows PR between 2-3. But seriously, I don’t know what does it really mean because my traffic still the same. Any ideas?

  9. I am reading this article very late…but im shocked that my website rank went down from 4 to none…it says google doesn’t even ranked my site….even my search traffic has gone down….really can’t understand what’s with google that changed my page rank…if PR doesn’t matter then why do they have that metric….its really strange.
