Google has put out a new video of SEO advice from Developer Programs Tech Lead, Maile Ohye. She discusses how to build an organic search strategy for your company.

“What’s a good way to integrate your company’s various online components, such as the website, blog, or YouTube channel? Perhaps we can help!” she says in a blog post about the video. “In under fifteen minutes, I outline a strategic approach to SEO for a mock company, Webmaster Central, where I pretend to be the SEO managing the Webmaster Central Blog.”

Specifically, she discusses: understanding searcher persona workflow, determining company and site goals, auditing your site to best reach your audience, execution, and making improvements.

You can find the slides she references here.

Groan. 15 minutes I’ll never get back. No SEO advice at all in this “SEO video”… it is really about general marketing strategy, like you would find in a marketing 101 tutorial. The SEO advice about overcoming obstacles … “Go for it!” … yup… I shit you not… that is their advice. I reminds me of the scene in ghostbusters… “I’ve got a plan. Listen closely and do exactly what I say….Get ’em!”

    Google is so scary.

They are the Hannibal Lector of the digital age.

Intelligent, benign, smiling and gracious on the outside.

But with the propensity for malevolent vindictiveness and self centred ambition always lurking beneath the surface.

Just terrible, laughable. I would like to think that laypersons and newbie SEO’s might benefit at least a little from this (it’s certainly not gonna help actual seasoned SEOs)… but no, probably won’t.
