Most people and businesses like Google.  Now, if they both like Google and want to keep their email accessible and secure, there’s a new option: Google Message Discovery.

Google Message Discovery Launches
 Google Message Discovery Console

There may not be a huge demand for this independent service, and its price tag – $25 per user per year – will likely make even more people lose interest.  It’s also being included with Google Apps Premier Edition, however, and Bill Kee took a moment to explain why folks should take note.

On the Official Google Enterprise Blog, he wrote, "The problem is, the backup systems many businesses use, such as tape drives or extra email servers, aren’t sufficient.  It’s costly and complex to store huge amounts of data on email servers.  And it’s nearly impossible to find specific emails quickly when searching through a pile of backup tapes."

Google Message Discovery, in contrast, "provides storage that automatically scales with your needs," "captures all sent and received messages," "allows specific policies to be set around message retention time periods," and "allows authorized administrators to search across email for all users quickly."

As a final note: Google Message Discovery is yet another service for which we can thank Postini.
