Google announced the launch of its big new Google Maps update for Android this week. It’s coming to iOS soon. The update includes a tablet-oriented version of Google Maps for the first time.

We took a fairly extensive look at what the app has to offer here.

As part of the announcement, Google revealed that it is retiring its location feature Google Latitude. Also gone was the Offline Maps feature, though Google did offer a workaround.

Anyhow, Google announced today that it has made an adjustment to the release related to these two particular items. Google said in a Google+ post:

We’ve been happy to hear so many of you enjoying the interface and features of the new Google Maps app for Android, but we know some of you are missing an easy way to access maps offline. That’s why our engineering team has been working around the clock to add a “Make this map area available offline” card below the search box for easier access. And, if you still want some #thumbercise, typing “ok maps” will work too!

With this update, we’ve also added a “Where’s Latitude?” link at the bottom of the side menu which provides more information about the future of location sharing.

The update is beginning a global roll-out today.

This can be an appropriate means compared to
the inapt cash request. Some churches have a
fellowship hall and for an additional fee you can rent the hall for your
reception. Key modifications in the jewelry business and the frequency of the Internet
in all aspects of commerce have allied to create the costs of handcrafted wedding rings steadily down.

Google maps is becoming more and more elegant day by day. The new “location sharing” might just spell doom for Foursquare.

Great product and about time too.

Effectively ruined the navigation….takes 5 steps to even start navigation, no full address given, no choices of closest place come up when you say a chain’s name or even where it is w/o several more steps, traffic harder to access and see as you actually travel. And this is progress..Seriously??

Beforehand, could speak my destination and instant pull up of navigation, address, and choices if you said a chain’s name. Best app on the phone and vital to those in the car, etc. How hard was this to totally screw up?

Never had to use any navigation but phone..now? May have to chunk Google.

When you think about a family of four, for example, the costs of paying for
all of this really will add up. This happy-making holiday offers everyone free rein for plastering cheery grins on our faces and hugging those grumpy, grimacing folks in our lives.

I’ve just about had it with this utterly unacceptable update and with this article falls short of warning people to stay clear of it!

The offline maps have been hidden in such an unintuitive place that most people think they’ve been removed from the app, and even for those of us who found how to save a map offline there’s no way to choose how much of the map to download any more, nor a management screen for all the offline maps.

The Labs have been removed completely, so all those cool tools we previously used, such as the ruler, are now completely REMOVED.

An update that just removes features is not an update at all. This app has been DOWNGRADED and that’s just unacceptable.

I have tried to delete the update with no success. The update has .made the navigation function less than useless. The good news is I am no longer married to a google based phone for my next purchase. The GPS was the most elegant and useful program I had ever used but it now is useless. It requires to much manipulation to get the information about traffic along your route or control the scale of the map. This will be responsible for many accidents as drivers fiddle with tbeir phones to get the information they need. Today I actually used the built in GPS in my car and not my phone. There must be some monetary motive driving this or someone is looking to destroy google maps from the inside. Not one change was an improvement. Really boggles the mind…
