  • Google used to have a rich snippet for prayer times, which sites for religious organizations could use to show these times in Google’s search results pages underneath their main listing.

Google has decided to no longer support the mark up for these rich snippets.

Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Land shares a statement from Google, saying, “Users can still search for prayer times on Google and find results from local sites, but we weren’t seeing much implementation of prayer times rich snippets, so we’ve removed it (apologies to webmasters who took some time to implement it) and are focusing our resources on developing different kinds of structured information in rich snippets.”

It’s an interesting move on Google’s part, as it continues to make more and more moves to get users answers from the search results page, rather than forcing them to click through to third-party sites. Just look at all of the things they’ve done over the summer.

Google still supports rich snippets markup for reviews, people, products, businesses and organizations, recipes, events and music. Google also recognizes markup for video content. More on the supported rich snippets here.
