Google bringing in do-gooders

Via Digg, a new set of job postings have cropped up on Google’s website. The positions will support Google.org, the company’s philanthropic arm.

The list of jobs included a description of the aims of the company’s efforts, as set down by co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

Google.org includes the work of the Google Foundation, some of Google’s own projects using Google talent, technology and other resources, as well as partnerships and contributions to for-profit and non-profit entities. The focus areas of Google.org include global poverty, climate change and global public health. We hope that someday this institution will eclipse Google itself in overall world impact by ambitiously applying innovation and significant resources to the largest of the world’s problems.

A Grants Administrator is among the positions and that could indicate Google is ready to open up to external applications for grants. That has been a closed process to date, with Google selecting a small number of initial recipients.
