It’s not fuel cell technology this time. The two automakers recently picked up J.D. Power awards for quality.

According to J.D. Power and Associates, the best-selling Honda Accord and Toyota Camry don’t lead their categories in quality.

The Chevy Malibu, Hyundai Sonata, and Volkswagen Jetta round out the entry mid-size sedan category. For premium mid-size sedans, the Buick Century came in first, with the Chevy Impala and Pontiac Grand Prix tied for second.

Toyota, with Lexus and Scion under its umbrella, rated number one in 10 of 18 reviewed segments, and GM had first place in 5 segments.

The most recent results come from surveys given out to 62,000 people who bought or leased cars in October or November of last year. They were asked about problems experienced by the cars over the first 90 days of ownership.
