Gina Carano, the fierce MMA fighter who is moving on to action star, will see her latest project released in theaters next year by Anchor Bay Films.
"In The Blood" will see a limited theatrical release in 2014 before moving on to a DVD/Blu-Ray release in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox. Carano, who previously starred in "Haywire" and "Fast And Furious 6", garnered quite a bit of attention in Hollywood with her fighting style; in fact, her character in Haywire was actually written around her.
"The first time I saw Gina Carano fight with Pro Elite, I knew I had to make a movie with her," said Kevin Kasha of Anchor Bay. "'In The Blood' is the perfect film for Gina and we at Anchor Bay Films are proud to be releasing it."
Carano plays a newlywed whose husband disappears on their honeymoon, and after she begins a quest to find out what happened to him, she discovers that nothing is what it seems. The opportunity for a woman to play the lead in an action film is not lost on the producers, who know what that could mean for the box office.
"'In the Blood' represents the start of a strong female franchise character and audiences are going to love seeing Gina Carano as 'Ava,'" said producer Shaun Redick.
"In The Blood" also stars Luis Guzman, Amaury Nolasco, Cam Gigandet, Danny Trejo, and Treat Williams, among others.
