An ambulance trip took a fatal turn early this morning near Ocilla, Georgia when a semi truck got in its path and they crashed, killing both paramedics and the patient on board.
The Coffee County ambulance was reportedly running both lights and sirens when the truck jack-knifed in the middle of the highway, crossing over the center line. The patient has been identified as 65-year-old Charles Arvin Smith of Tifton; the emergency medical technicians were identified as 44-year-old Teresa Ann Davis of Axson, who was driving the ambulance, and 56-year-old Randall Whiddon of Ashburn. Rockwell Lott, the driver of the truck, was not injured.
The crash, which occurred on highway 32 about 180 miles south of Atlanta, is being investigated. Inclement weather may have been a factor, but authorities haven't concluded one way or the other.
