  • Roxanne Myers was doing some research on gaming addiction for her senior thesis when she decided to join a weekend-long gaming challenge to add some substance to her study. After over a day and many hours of being seated at her desk competing in the challenge, she fell asleep. She was exhausted and needed the rest. The only problem was, she fell asleep cross-legged thereby cutting the circulation off from he lower legs.

According to Myers, she suffers from a pre-existing condition which makes her prone to blood clots. Because of her exhaustion she did not feel the pressure in her legs start to build and when she woke up her legs were severely swollen and she had blood clots all throughout her body. She could not walk and had to call for help to be transported to the hospital.

The prognosis from physicians was grim. Her right foot would have to be almost entirely amputated and many of her left toes would also have to be removed. ThoseGuys.TV did a video interview with Roxanne which I feature below, but they have also provided pictures of the afflicted feet. I also include them below, but be warned, it is a gruesome sight.

    Here’s the video:

The pictures of Roxanne’s feet follow, but don’t look any further if you have a weak stomach, it is not a pretty sight:

Take a lesson from this story, if you have to stay in a seated position for a long period of time, take many breaks and get your blood circulating. Many people have suffered from incidents like this one. Just because you’re not an athlete, doesn’t mean you don’t have to take care of your body.
