As dropping temperatures and crazy weather stories increase, we must face the reality that winter weather is coming.

While you may be preparing or have already prepared for the bad weather to come, you have let your guard down about more personal preparations.

It’s getting close to flu season as well. Do you know when you and your family will be getting your flu shots?

Well if you intend to hold off to the last minute, you could be doing yourself a disservice.

It turns out that the best time to get a flu shot isn’t late autumn or early winter. Instead it’s highly suggested that flu shots be obtained in late summer or early fall.

This makes sense when you think about it.

Flu season typically begins in late October and peaks during late winter (January into February).

Believe or not, you’re not out of the woods when spring arrives; the virus is said to stick around infecting people until May!

With that many flu germs around and for THAT long, it only makes sense to get prepared as soon as possible.

The Center for Disease Control or CDC estimates that as many as 36,000 Americans die each year as a result of the flu or complications related to the flu.

It’s also important to remember that flu vaccinations aren’t a one time thing; if you were vaccinated last year you’ll need to get a shot this year as well.

The persons most vulnerable to the flu virus are small children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Chronic illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes or cancer can also increase vulnerabilities to the flu and associated complications.

Finding a place to get your flu shot is easier than ever. Many pharmacies offer a flu shot or you can schedule an appointment with the family doctor.
