No, not really. What you’re actually seeing is several Atlantic City firefighters swearing in on a bible iPad app in lieu of an actual bible because someone forgot to bring the actual bible to the ceremony.

I f-ing love Stratego. Let’s get that out of the way. When I think of Stratego, I remember childhood nights spent beating my grandfather in the classic game of capture the flag. HOW DID YOU NOT REMEMBER I HAD A BOMB THERE, PAPA? Of course, he totally remembered and he let me win every time. Still, my memories of Stratego are not adversely affected by that realization.

Well, Stratego fans: you can now play the game on your iPad (multiplayer and single player).

Keesing Games has just released the Official Stratego app for iPad. Yes, it’s just for iPad – not your iPhone or iPod touch. That’s probably for the best, considering there’s about 80 pieces on the board at the onset.

Stratego fans have been able to play on the Web and on Facebook for some time now, and the good news is that you’ll be able to cross-platform play with them on your iPad.

You’ll also have the ability to save your battle setups for quick play, and you can customize your pieces as well.

Unfortunately, I’ve not yet had the chance to play it. CNET calls the game “impressive, if imperfect” and has this to say:

“I…found Stratego to be pretty buggy, alternately crashing, producing error messages, or having trouble signing into Facebook. Plus, the AI is what I’d call overly aggressive, as it never forgets the location of your pieces (once revealed) the way a human would. I won’t say beating the AI is impossible, but at the very least the game should offer a choice of skill levels.”

But against real players, the game is much better.

The game costs $6.99, which is a little steep. But the multiplayer aspect and the ability to save loadouts, along with added achievements and customizable pieces should make it worth it for a hardcore fan of the game. Although, they may considering waiting a little bit to download the game – bugs could be fixed and that price could drop.

Hey Google+ users, I hope you’re ready to Hangout on your iPad. That’s because Google has just updated their iOS app to add support for the Apple tablet.

Having previously only offered Google+ on the iPhone, users are bound to have a richer, more immersive experience on the iPad. Google’s pretty sure of it, as they boast about some pretty fun new features that come along with the update:

The Google+ app for iPad was designed with the device in mind. Your stream styles content based on popularity, type and orientation. We’ve also added unique ways to interact with the app—lean back and try these out:

Pinch and expand posts right in your stream to add your comments

Use two fingers to drag a post from your stream to easily re-share it

Start a Hangout from your iPad and stream it to your TV using AirPlay

So, along with the sure-to-be-a-hit Hangouts functionality for the iPad, Google has also added Events on Google+ to version 3.0. The Events feature lets users create and manage their event-related comments, photos, and attendees list right from the device.

Earlier this morning we told you that Apple had fixed the bug in the App Store that caused several recently-updated apps to crash on launch. The problem apparently originated with an Apple server responsible for adding DRM code to apps. The code that was getting added was corrupt, causing the apps to crash on launch – in fact, if you tapped the icon for an affected app, it would crash before the home screen had completely disappeared.

As you might expect, users were not at all happy about the problems. What’s more, many – probably most – didn’t realize that the problem was Apple’s fault and not the developers. And so, of course, these users did what users do when they’re upset about something: they left nasty reviews. Several of the affected apps received numerous negative reviews before Apple got their fix in place.

Fortunately, Apple recognizes the amount of harm a whole bunch of negative reviews in a short time can cause, especially to an app that’s struggling to gain popularity in the App Store. With that in mind, Apple extended the affected apps a peace offering. They removed all of the negative reviews left during the period the bug was in effect. In some cases, they even appeared to have removed all reviews, not just the negative ones.

With the bug fixed and most users having installed the new, corrected versions of the apps, removing the negative reviews is pretty much the last step toward fixing the problem. Kudos to Apple for making the situation right.

Call it an app of the iPad, by the iPad, for the iPad – Cargo-Bot has just hit iTunes and is available to download for free.

Cargo-Bot is a puzzle game that has you “teach a robot how to move crates.” Sounds fun, I guess. But even if the game (which I haven’t played yet, could be spectacular) isn’t one of the greatest of all time, it will live on in history for another reason: it was “prototyped, programmed, and polished” entirely on the iPad.

The game comes to us from Two Lives Left, who used their own Codea app to make Cargo-Bot. Codea is a coding app that “lets you create games and simulation, or just about any visual idea you have.”

It’s the first game of its kind, prototyped, programmed and polished on iPad. Cargo-Bot was created by Rui Viana, a Codea user who developed his initial prototype and shared it with the Codea community. Two Lives Left reached out to Rui in order to turn his prototype into a published App Store game. They also enlisted the aid of Fred Bogg, a composer who developed a music library for Codea, to create the music for Cargo-Bot.

Viana is an MIT grad, and Cargo-Bot is his first iOS app.

Check it out below:

Retina optimized graphics, puzzles, and truly native to the iPad. Can’t wait to get home any try this one out for myself. How about you?

Apple has just released version 1.1 of their iTunes Movie Trailers App, which means that it’s “now designed for the spectacular Retina display on the all new iPad.” The trailers app still has all of the newest HD clips from upcoming films, and now you can enjoy them on your awesome new Retina display.

The new iPad features a 2048 x 1536 resolution, which amounts to 3.1 million pixels on the 9.7-inch screen. According to Apple, it’s about four times as many pixels as the iPad 2, and more than many HDTVs. Many big-time apps are beginning to update specifically to accomodate the new Retina display. Just yesterday, Netflix’s app was updated to include optimized icons and images. They also announced that HD video was on the way at some point.

App developers are going to have to make these adjustments, as the early numbers suggest that Apple has another hit on their hands. In its first four days on the market, Apple sold three million new iPads. Yesterday we learned that the new iPad already accounts for 6% of all web traffic coming from iPads.

Today, the new iPad is coming to 25 new countries, including many in Europe like Austria, Greece, Hungary, and Italy – as well as Mexico and New Zealand.

Netflix is the latest big-name company to announce that they have upgraded their iPad app for the brand new retina display. The enhanced new app, among other things, features high resolution icons and images. I mean, you bought the new iPad for a reason, right?

So, here’s what you’ll get with version 2.1.1:

Improved artwork for new iPad Retina display

Fixed VoiceOver support

Improved playback on external displays

Numerous fixes and stability improvements

Not quite Earth-shattering, but here’s the really cool part. According to Netflix’s Twitter account, you’ll soo be watching all the movies and TV shows streaming in HD. Netflix says that is coming “later” – later today, later this month, or later this year is unknown.

The new iPad officially went on sale today, and if the long lines outside electronics stores are any indication, sales should be huge.

Unfortunately, not ever app on the market is iPad retina display ready. Apple has upgraded theirs, but that’s to be expected. Some third party apps have not been lucky enough to get things ready for the release. Others plan to capitalize on the new technology by being the first out the door with HD graphics.

On the heels of their big new iPad unveiling party, Apple has officially raised the size limit on apps downloaded via data network (3G, and now 4G LTE). Before, users could only download an app over 3G if it was under 20MB. If it exceeded that size, users would see a message that ever iOS’er is quite used to: “This item is over 20MB – You must connect to a Wi-Fi network or use iTunes on your computer to download it.”

Now, that limit has been raised to 50MB, as first spotted by AppAdvice. This new limit now applies to all types of media – music, videos, and apps.

The reason for this change most certainly has to do with the new iPad that was announced earlier this afternoon. It sports a super high-def Retina display with a 2048×1536 resolution. That means that Apple has crammed 3.1 million pixels into its 9.7-inch screen.

This upgrade was reported to be a problem for over-the-air app downloads, as many files now had to be larger to support both the new Retina display as well as the older, less-capable displays. This meant that too many apps would cross that 20MB threshold and thus only be available for download via wireless.

The new iPad will not only have the retina display, but will come with 4G LTE as well. It will hits stores on March 16th and will start at $499.

The Team Coco Tablet App steps into the entertainment fray, bringing the “two screens” phenomenon to late night.

Armed with the knowledge that many TV viewers have their smartphone or tablet handy when watching shows, the Team Coco visionaries aim to harness that power in a deliberate fashion. Their concept: watch Conan with the Team Coco Tablet App running, enable the new “Sync” feature within the app, and get bonus content synchronized with that show in real-time. Well, time-shifted time. But, synchronized time-shifted time. You get the idea.

Feast your eyes.
