<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What do you get when you combine two of the biggest tech trends today &#8211; social networking and mobile?</p>
<p>You get <a href="http://www.helio.com/page?p=homepage" class="bluelink">Helio</a>, a new youth-oriented cell phone service that wisely has formed <a href="http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1956157,00.asp" class="bluelink">an exclusive partnership with MySpace</a>. A customized, WAP-based MySpace client comes on each Helio handset. It not only makes it easy to read MySpace blogs on the go, but also to write to them. </p>
<p>The Wall Street Journal (via the <a href="http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/business/personal_finance/14444946.htm" class="bluelink">Kansas City Star</a>) sees this as a big trend. They note that Facebook&#8217;s mobile services will be available to students at more than 2,000 universities by the end of this month and high school users by early May. </p>
<p>Add to <script language='javascript'> document.write("<a href='http://del.icio.us/post?url="+encodeURIComponent(document.location.href)+"&#038;title="+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+"'>Del.icio.us</a>")</script> | <a href="javascript:void window.open('http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&#038;url='+encodeURIComponent(window.location.href)+'&#038;ei=UTF-8','popup','width=520px,height=420px,status=0,location=0,resizable=1,scrollbars=1,left=100,top=50',0)">DiggThis</a> | <a href="javascript:void window.open('http://myweb2.search.yahoo.com/myresults/bookmarklet?t='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+'&#038;u='+encodeURIComponent(window.location.href)+'&#038;ei=UTF-8','popup','width=520px,height=420px,status=0,location=0,resizable=1,scrollbars=1,left=100,top=50',0)">Yahoo! <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In a brilliant (albeit wacky) idea, the first two innings of an actual minor league baseball game will be played on an Xbox, with the third inning picking up where the virtual game left off.</p>
<p>The July 16th game between the Kansas City T-Bones and the Schaumburg Flyers will begin with two T-Bones fans playing two innings of MVP Baseball 2005 on reclining chairs situated around home plate. The fans will be the two finalists in a 16-player tournament scheduled for July 9, and those 16 will come from high scores recorded at area CompUSA stores.</p>
<p>The game will be between digitized versions of the two teams, complete with scanned faces and accurate stats. No word on why a T-Bones fan would do anything to hurt his team by trying to win with the Flyers, but we&#8217;ll have to see how this one goes. This game is especially important, since the T-Bones and Flyers are rivals who faced in the playoffs last year, and those two innings will absolutely count in the standings.</p>

<description><![CDATA[Kansas City Southern completed its purchase of the controlling interest in TFM from Grupo TMM, in accordance with the terms of the Amended and Restated Acquisition Agreement.
]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Kansas City Southern completed its purchase of the controlling interest in TFM from Grupo TMM, in accordance with the terms of the Amended and Restated Acquisition Agreement.</p>
<p>As a result, KCS now owns all of the common stock of Grupo Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana, S.A. de C.V. and controls all of the shares of TFM entitled to full voting rights. </p>
<p>&#8220;This is an historic opportunity to create one of North America&#8217;s premier railroads,&#8221; said Michael R. Haverty, KCS chairman, president and chief executive officer. &#8220;TFM, Kansas City Southern Railway and The Texas Mexican Railway Company (TexMex) will now operate under common overall leadership, creating a seamless transportation system that spans the heart of North America.&#8221; </p>
<p>The union of the three railroads under common ownership has several inherent advantages for Mexico and the entire NAFTA region including greater investment in cross-border transportation infrastructure, the implementation of advanced cargo tracing and tracking systems, improved border security, and world-class employee training programs. The long-term result will be more employment opportunities and greater overall competitiveness in Mexico. </p>
<p>TFM will remain a Mexican corporation with Mexican leadership. As of April 1, 2005, Vicente Corta Fernandez has assumed the duties of TFM Interim CEO. &#8220;Vicente Corta is a skilled negotiator and a natural leader,&#8221; said Haverty. &#8220;He comes to TFM as part of a distinguished career in government and private business. We will all look to Vicente for leadership and guidance as we work together to take TFM to the next level.&#8221; </p>
<p>Vicente Corta is a partner in the law firm of White &#038; Case S.C. where he has proven a strong advocate for both public and private sector clients. Before joining White &#038; Case, Mr. Corta served as President of Mexico&#8217;s National Commission for the Retirement Savings System (CONSAR). Prior to that, until August 2000, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Protection of Bank Savings (IPAB), Mexico&#8217;s deposit insurance and bank resolution agency. His tenure with the IPAB is best remembered for his aggressive and effective steps to reform and overhaul Mexico&#8217;s banking system, including overseeing the orderly resolution of approximately US$38 billion worth of assets from troubled banks and directing the government takeover of several of Mexico&#8217;s unstable banks. </p>
<p>Before heading the IPAB, Mr. Corta held important posts at the Mexican Ministry of Finance and Public Credit for almost a decade. Mr. Corta will continue as a partner of White &#038; Case during his tenure as TFM Interim CEO . </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>According to a report that appeared in the Associated Press, search engine Google is preparing to buyback 23.4 million shares and options that the company may have inappropriately issued. In a filing done through the SEC, Google states that the buyback window for current and previous employees will close on December 30th.</p>
<p>Google has also stated that 5.22 million common shares, in the form of non-exercised options, would also be eligible for buyback. In a report that appeared in <a href="http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/business/technology/10303622.htm">The Kansas City Star</a>, it was revealed that Google would purchase these shares &#8220;from 30 cents to $80 a share.&#8221; The buyback prices will be equal to the amount that was paid, plus interest.</p>
<p>The buyback plan servers as a remedy for the federal investigation into Google&#8217;s granting of stock options and shares to employees before their IPO. Currently, Google&#8217;s NASDAQ is at $181.74 a share.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As a cadet reporter on the Kansas City Star, Ernest Hemingway was given a style sheet containing four basic rules:<br />
1.. Use short sentences<br />
2.. Use short first paragraphs<br />
3.. Use vigorous English<br />
4.. Be positive, not negative</p>
<p>In his later years, Hemingway said, &#8220;Those were the best rules I ever learned in the business of writing. I&#8217;ve never forgotten them. No one with any talent, who feels and writes truly about the things he is trying to say, can fail to write well if he abides by them.&#8221;</p>
<p>In essence, this boils down to writing simply and naturally. Allow your true style to come out from hiding and begin to use your own unique writing voice.</p>
<p>By applying these Kansas City rules, we can all improve our writing and start getting results.</p>
<p>Try, for just a day, testing your work against these rulesand you&#8217;ll see what I mean.</p>
