Google Glass may have been announced at last year’s Google I/O, but it didn’t get a proper introduction until this year’s I/O. Google devoted a number of sessions for the new hardware on Thursday, and Google has made some of those sessions available on YouTube.

First up is Developing for Glass with Timothy Jordan. He announced the Glass Developer Kit during this session, but there’s more than that:

By bringing technology closer, we can get it out of the way. This and other core concepts, design guidelines, UX paradigms, and APIs will be introduced as a baseline for Glass Development. Excellent examples will be shown and used to codify everything into a set of best practices. If you want to develop for Glass, this is where you start!

The other session is Voiding Your Warranty: Hacking Your Glass with Hyunyoung Sung and P.Y. Laligand:

Glass is ready for hacking! See what is possible with the hardware platform and how you can gain root access. Learn how to run your own experimental applications. Disclaimer: you’ll be stepping into uncharted and unsupported territory!

Google Glass can do a lot of things, but can it be used in sports?

Google Glass Explorer Joseph Lallouz might have answered that very question this week when he wore Glass to his hockey game. What follows is six minutes of first-person hockey that feels all too real and incredibly immersive.

Now, Glass has no chance of replacing traditional sports broadcasting, but it would be an incredible compliment. Just imagine a broadcast of a football game switching to a live feed from the players as the game starts. Even better, people watching the game could switch between players to get whatever view they desire.

Google Glass has a lot of potential, but the controlled demos from Google haven’t really sold me on Glass entirely. Watching a hockey game from the perspective of a player has.

Google shares the videos in a blog post, explaining:

The Life at Google team produced a video series called Do Cool Things That Matter. This series includes a video from an SET and TE on the Maps team (Sean Jordan and Yvette Nameth) discussing their work on the Google Maps team.

The Google Students team hosted a Hangouts On Air event with several Google SETs (Diego Salas, Karin Lundberg, Jonathan Velasquez, Chaitali Narla, and Dave Chen) discussing the SET role.

Aside from the folks at Google and a few lucky developers, none of us have had the chance to wear Glass yet. We, the consumers, still don’t know how Glass is going to impact our lives, but a recent video from Google gives us a small idea.

In a new video simply titled, “How It Feels [through Glass],” Google shares a point of view walkthrough of how Glass will work in everyday scenarios. Check it out:

Now, I don’t think all of us will be doing anything quite as extreme as skydiving or performing barrel rolls in an air plane. What it illustrates, however, is how Glass will greatly impact sharing of information from one person to the next. A pilot can wear Glass, take off in a plane, and then have students watching a live feed from Glass on the ground. They get first hand experience in piloting a plane without having to be on board the vehicle.

Of course, Google’s views on how people will use Glass are a bit optimistic. We all know that the majority of Glass users will be using the technology to share inane statuses and irreverent jokes.

Google Glass took everyone by surprise when it was revealed at last year’s Google I/O, and quickly became one of the most anticipated pieces of hardware in development. Since then, the company has been working on the hardware and software, while setting up the first hackathons for those who invested in Glass.

Unfortunately, the rest of us will have to wait until Google can get Glass out on the mass market. According to Google’s own Sergey Brin, that might be later this year.

While we wait, check out E.B. Studios‘ latest investigative piece into Glass and the people behind the project. The report also features a Glass mockup created on a 3D printer to better illustrate how one wears the hardware. Check it out:

The Chromebooks of today aren’t exactly cutting edge. The budget notebook PCs are intended to bring the power of the Web to as many people as possible through affordable hardware. That all may be changing in the future if a leaked video is to believed.

Android Authority nabbed a fascinating teaser video that references a new Google project called the Chromebook Pixel. It features a 2560×1700 display. The only thing better would be the 15-inch MacBook Pro which sports a 2880×1800 retina display. Check out the leaked teaser video below:

The leaked video doesn’t tell us much about the Chromebook Pixel’s hardware, but we do know that it will sport a touchscreen. Adding to the legitimacy of the leak is that it originally came from François Beaufort, a developer who has leaked previous Google products on Google+.

Google hasn’t made any formal announcement in regards to the Chromebook Pixel yet, or even hinted that such a thing exists. The company only just recently partnered with HP for the Pavilion 14 Chromebook.

Still, the idea of a high-end Chromebook is exciting. The only thing holding the Chromebook back with power users, besides Chrome OS’s incompatibility with traditional applications, is that they’re usually underpowered devices. The Chromebook Pixel could go a long way in increasing adoption among power users, especially with that glorious screen.
