Motorola announced plans to add Kreatel Communications to their mix. The Swedish company develops IPTV-based digital set-top boxes that utilize Linux. This move by Motorola will keep them competitive as the IPTV market continues to take off.

Kreatel brings over six years' experience developing and delivering innovative IPTV set-top software and hardware solutions to European telecom operators and ISPs. The Kreatel team and IPTV technology will add another significant advantage for Motorola customers worldwide - augmenting the company's existing portfolio and providing significant flexibility for operators as they deploy video services.

This is a great move for Motorola as many in the industry see IPTV as the future, with some version of the set top boxes in households.. This will leave Motorola in good shape and in turn, Linux will have another strong avenue for the future.
