  • R&B singer/actor Evan Ross and fiancee Ashlee Simpson threw an elegant engagement party at Ashlee’s mom Tina Simpson’s house on Saturday. According to E! News the event was described as “small, intimate, just close friends and family.”

However, when your last name is Ross, that family means one of the biggest names in the history of popular music. Evan’s mother is none other than the great Diana Ross, who happened to be celebrating her 70th birthday on the same day as the engaged couple’s party. Before the big event, Ashlee and Evan helped Diana celebrate the milestone birthday with a small soiree on the beach at Malibu.

Ashlee’s famous sister Jessica also attended the party. Jessica, as you may remember was married to Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees. She is currently engaged to Eric Johnson. So the Simpson parents have two weddings to look forward to in the near future.

Here’s a pic of the two sisters enjoying the party taken from Jessica’s Instagram account.

This is Ashlee’s second marriage. Her first marriage to Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz ended in 2011 after three years of marriage. They have a five-year-old son named Bronx, who was also in attendance. The 29-year-old Pieces of Me singer took to Twitter on Wednesday to post a picture of herself and her fiancee. That’s Ross in the fur coat and Simpson in the feathered headdress. The couple went with the whole matching ivory look. The theme for the party was throwback vintage.

The couple got engaged in January. They each posted the news on their personal Twitter accounts using the same picture.
