The European Union is urging China to cut back its textile exports, and today EU commissioner Peter Mandelson is visiting the country.

Mandelson is planning an investigation into 9 Chinese textile and clothing product categories.

“Europe cannot stand by and simply watch these developments unfold. The time has come to take further action,” said Mandelson.

A BBC article says:

“Mr Mandelson has called on China to curb exports or face enforced limits.

The commissioner was careful to play down the threatening nature of his comments over a problem that has arisen from everyday articles such as socks, T-shirts, bras, blouses and trousers.”

China has warned that putting limits on their exports could potentially hurt relations between Brussels and Beijing.
