Marvel Studios has been trying to land the services of actress Emily Blunt for a while now. The actress has reportedly been offered the role of the Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and of Agent Peggy Carter.
Unfortunately, the actress had to give both roles a pass each time.
“It was never the right time, really, and it just didn’t work out scheduling-wise with Black Widow and Peggy Carter,” Blunt explains. “It’s always a difficult thing to talk about, because it’s not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn’t the right time.”
But the time might finally be right and rumors have started swirling that Emily Blunt will allegedly portray the role of Carol Danvers, who’s also known by her moniker Captain Marvel, in the groundbreaking female-led superhero film.

Blunt has been a heavy favorite among comic book fans who believe she’ll be perfect in the Captain Marvel role, especially now that the 32-year old actress has shown what a complete badass she can be in Edge of Tomorrow.
The Into the Woods star is aware of the fans preference for her in the Captain Marvel role and based on her previous comments to ScreenCrush, it would appear that Blunt is not averse to playing the role.
Aside from Blunt, there have also been rumblings that the studio is also considering Charlize Theron for the role.

However, the Captain Marvel movie doesn’t have a director yet so it’s likely that the studio would try to pin down a director first before they even begin to start searching for the right cast.
There have been several Captain Marvels before Major Carol Danvers assumed the persona. Danvers made her debut as Captain Marvel in 1968’s Marvel Super Heroes as a US Air Force security chief who developed powers after being exposed to an exploding alien device.
Captain Marvel is set to hit US theaters on November 2, 2018.
