  • Elizabeth Lauten has received a lot of criticism for her remarks about Obama’s teenage daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama. The teens were present at the annual turkey pardoning event, but looked rather bored.

While most people didn’t pay much attention to the girls’ behavior, Elizabeth Lauten, former spokeswoman for Representative Stephen Fincher, was watching them carefully and she had a thing or two to say about their behavior.

“Dear Sasha and Malia: I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play,” Lauten wrote on her Facebook page.

“Then again, your mother and father don’t respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter,” Lauten added. “So I’m guessing you’re coming up a little short in the ‘good role model’ department. Stretch yourself. Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.”

The post went viral fairly quickly and many people defended the girls, even people who are not necessarily fans of the president.

Lauten deleted the post and posted an apology on Facebook. The apology didn’t seem very sincere and more like a copout than genuine feelings.

“After many hours of prayer, talking to my parents, and re-reading my words online I can see more clearly just how hurtful my words were,” Lauten wrote. “I’d like to apologize to all of those who I have hurt and offended with my words, and I pledge to learn and grow (and I assure you I have)from this experience.”

Lauten finally did the right thing and resigned from her position as spokeswoman for Representative Stephen Fincher and is hoping the whole thing will be forgotten.

The problem is, Lauten doesn’t seem to have learned anything and is instead trying to save face by doing what she thinks the public wants her to do.
