Neither party makes much noise

Companies’ directors don’t do much on a day-to-day basis; their departures don’t, to be honest, cause any real-world cogs to stick.  Still, it’s not too encouraging that Philip R. Lochner, Jr. left Monster Worldwide’s board of directors as the company’s stock sat near a 52-week low.

Philip R. Lochner, Jr. Leaves Monster’s Board Of Directors

Monster filed a report with the SEC today, but Lochner resigned on April 1, and that low (of $23.05) actually occurred on March 20, so it looks as if a little cause and effect may be at work.  December of 2006 – a much happier time, financially speaking – is when Lochner assumed his seat on Monster’s board.

Neither Lochner nor Monster is broadcasting much in the way of details, of course; the SEC document only states, “Mr. Lochner’s resignation from the Company’s Board of Directors did not involve any disagreement on any matter relating to the Company’s operations, policies or practices.”

Now, although Monster’s stock closed at $26.14 on Friday, it’s dropped back down to $25.12; investors don’t seem to approve of Lochner’s exit.

Dan Frommer also seems to suspect something’s up; he paraphrased Monster’s statement into the insubstantial assurance “it’s totally cool.”

Monster = $425 to post a single job to reach the same if not less candidates that you reach on Craigslist where you pay only $25 or free in some states.

So you see, the Newspaper industry isn’t the only thing craigs unnatural selection is affecting. Craig is like a blackhole sucking everything and people are saying "God bless Craig" Well tell that to the thousands that have lost their jobs in the newspaper industry or the hundreds that Monster and Careerbuilder will soon lay off.

The Economics of business will surely kick in. When supply will exceed demand. I.e, more people posting than reading on craig. Quality will decrease, response will decrease. Craig will be a fool to think he can maintain this business method for ever. Sadly, it will be too late.
