It's no secret that Demi Lovato lived a troubled life before she entered rehab, but few of her fans really know how bad her struggles got. Demi recently admitted that she could not go very long without her drug fix and as a result would go as far as smuggling cocaine on airplanes. Demi's struggles weren't only with drugs, she also had a drinking problem and said she would drink all day, sometimes starting early in the morning.
Demi says that although she struggled with drugs and alcohol on a daily basis, she was able to keep her addictions hidden from her family and friends. In an interview she said,
"Something I've never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn't go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes," she revealed. "I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I'd sneak to the bathroom and I'd do it. That's how difficult it got and that was even with somebody [with me], I had a sober companion, somebody who was watching me 24/7 and living with me [and] I was able to hide it from them as well."
Demi may not have been as good at hiding her problems as she thought. Lovato’s mother, Dianna Hart said that for a long time she was in denial about her daughter's drug and alcohol abuse, but suspected that she may have a problem. Demi's mother also said that she felt responsible for Demi's eating disorder because she herself had dealt with one of her own.
After Demi went to rehab she was able to get the help she needed for her addictions and mental issues and was able to get her career back on track. She is now a judge on The X Factor and no longer has problems with food, drugs or alcohol.
