David Boreanaz May Be Leaving “Bones” [UPDATE]
[ Life]

It looks like fans of Fox’s hit show Bones may never get the fairytale ending they’ve been hoping for Bones and Booth. According to Radar Online, a production source says that David Boreanaz, who plays Agent Seeley Booth on the show, wants to quit.

Before Bones fans get too bent out of shape, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Boreanaz has scared the crap out of everyone who has been rooting for Booth and Bones. Back in 2012, Boreanaz made some posts on Twitter that suggested he was ready to move on from the show, which is now in its ninth season.

“Let’s put this in sports terms. I’m a free agent after this season. So the Bones fair well tour is in full-swing. You must always keep your options open and ready for new challenges. The fear is the unknown and that’s exciting,” Boreanaz said. He later deleted the posts.

The bulk of Boreanaz’s acting career has consisted of playing two roles. He spent eight years as Angel, the vampire with a soul, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then Angel, plus he has put in eight years on Bones so far. Considering that, it’s not hard to understand why he’d be ready to move on.

Writers for Bones teased fans for years with a romantic relationship between Bones and Booth before finally getting the characters on the same page. After the two finally got together and had a baby, it seemed like things were going to work out. Booth later proposed, only to cancel the pending nuptials at the end of season eight after being threatened by a serial killer.

The wedding is back on now, and Bones and Booth will finally tie the knot in the October 21 episode, so the rumors about Boreanaz quitting couldn’t come at a worse time for fans. The source did say that Emily Deschanel, who plays Bones, wanted to continue the show without Boreanaz, but it’s hard to imagine Bones without Seeley Booth.

UPDATE: David Boreanaz responded to a fan question regarding whether he is leaving Bones on Twitter and says that he will be back if the show gets picked up for a tenth season.

Beulah ain’t gonna like this. She’s had eyes for Booth for quite a spell.

  • Parsley

I think his departure is coming at the RIGHT time. It’s been a great show, but the story has been told and it’s time to move on.

  • llll

The show is both of them. Even one of them leaves and the show should end

  • Miko Sonoma

Bones is not Bones without Booth. I have been waiting a long time for these 2 to recognize their chemistry, but I am all about the cast. You already got rid of Zack, which was painful because Zack was great!! The cast is what makes the show… its not the show that makes the cast!! some casts just have that chemistry and this cast has that chemistry!! that chemistry whether in real or screen life is … priceless!!

    • Gail Rendle

I don’t know, Booth drives me nuts, with his constantly pushing religion. We get so much of that. I’ve enjoyed Brennan’s pushing back at him, and asserting her independence, her logical, reason-based life-style. I’d like to see more shows where the characters stand on their own two feet and represent those of us who claim no religious beliefs, instead of knuckling under and going along with the presumption that religion is required in order to be a good character. I’d like to see more shows demonstrating that you don’t need religion to be a good, moral, upright person.

      • John Dickey

It’s ironic that you say we “get so much” of “religion” when Christianity and God have been virtually eliminated from everything on TV. I’m not understanding how you come to that conclusion.

      • Lil_Lost

        I’m sorry, What?
God has been removed from virtually every aspect of American society. God has been removed from schools. God has been removed from government. God has been removed from all aspect of media. The more we as a society leave God’s protection, the sooner we become the Roman Empire and you can stand there and watch the country burn.

Bones is a concrete sort of person and can not quantify the thought of supernatural. There is more to the world than what you alone experience. She uses her smarts as a shield against people because she’s afraid and insecure.

So, where do you get your definition of a moral, good, upright person? Because those ideals came from God. Anything outside of Him is, well, not. You can “pretend” to be a good and moral person, just like the Taliban. They believe they are being good and morally correct and that you are an infidel. Or the Huaorani people who thought the good thing to do was killed five US foreigners to protect their people.

I agree with you whole heartedly, Gail Rendle. You basically just said exactly what I feel.

And for those of you complaining that religion has been removed from everything. That is a complete lie and irrelevant to this topic. Gail is saying that religion is often tied to morality in media, and it is uncommon to find a true atheist that is not portrayed as week or immoral.

And no matter how angry you are at those who are (rightfully) attempting to separate religion from government, they have been unsuccessful. Religion is still a huge part of society. Everyday. It is everywhere. And it makes life very difficult for many.

Bones needs both lead actors. It wouldn’t be Bones without ED or DB.I love the show just the way it is except when they try to make Bones more stupid than she really is.

  • Robertajo Trask

Bones without David Boreanaz would fall flat. His characterization of Booth is uniquely his. Emily Deschanel is a wonderful actress, but that being said, the interplay between them can not be duplicated. It’s the heart of the show. I would follow David wherever his career choices take him, though. I have followed his career since the beginning and have seen every single episode of the shows he’s been in ( lead and guest roles) too many times to count.

  • Sasha Gio

Booth deserves better than Bones. Bones is annoying and obnoxious. I frequently change the channel when she starts one of her diatribes about how smart she is and better than anyone else on the planet. The stories have run their course. Send the show off in a respectable, friendly way…but not with Booth and Bones getting married.

    • Michael Keller

“When actress Lillian Russell was asked about her appearance, she replied, ‘If I pretended that I wasn’t beautiful, wouldn’t it be ridiculous?’
Any man / woman that knows what he / she does has to analyze it and to be aware of it.”
      - an interview with the late great theatre organist Virgil Fox

      Translated:
It’s perfectly acceptable – and in fact, it’s more honest – to be smart (or beautiful, or both) and to know that you are.

my suspicion is that one (1) season without Boreanaz and the show will fold. “Bones” is NOT NCIS.

  • Laura

I hope Bones gets renewed for a 10th season, I have been following and loving it since Day One of Season One, and watch repeats upon repeats. I can’t imagine a Bones withOUT Booth.
