Guy Whittall was staying in a Humani, Zimbabwe hunting lodge when he woke up to find an 8-foot, 330 pound crocodile under his bed. The 40-year-old former coach of the Zimbabwe cricket team and current director of the hotel didn't know about the hiding croc until the housekeeper screamed, according to New Zimbabwe.
"The really disconcerting thing about the whole episode is the fact that I was sitting on the edge of the bed that morning, bare foot and just centimetres away from the croc," Whittall said.
Though the crocodile resisted, Whittall and some staff were able to pull the beast out from under the bed and free it in the nearby Tugwe river. He explained that crocs are naturally quiet hiders. "That's why they have survived on Earth for so long and why they are the ultimate killers in water," he added.
"I just remember thinking goodness gracious, that's one for the books. I'm pretty sure everyone in Humani checks under their bed before going to sleep now anyway," he said.
