Conan O’Brien is here to stay!

On Wednesday, May 14, TBS announced that O’Brien‘s late-night talk show Conan has¬†been renewed for an additional four years. According to ABC13-Houston,¬†the new contract will allow the show to run through 2018. The television network released a statement in regards to the renewal. President, head of programming for TBS, Michael Wright also praised the 51-year-old talk show host for the success he’s had with the show since it aired in November of 2010.

“Conan has not only brought an incredibly young audience to TBS but has also created a digital presence that draws millions of fans to his unique brand of comedy,” Wright, president said in a statement.

“In addition, Conan has taken his show on the road for memorable weeks in New York, Atlanta and last month in Dallas, and will be breaking new ground next year when¬†Conan¬†becomes the first late-night show to tape at Comic-Con. We couldn’t have asked for a better late-night host or a more enthusiastic ambassador for the TBS brand.”

Although¬†Conan¬†was renewed, its no secret that the show has seen a drastic decline in viewership.¬†The show, which premiered with an impressive 4.1 million viewers, now only maintains an average of approximately 862,000 viewers, the network pointed out that there’s one advantage the show has.¬†It still captures more adult viewers aged 18-34 than its highly ranked competitors Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel¬†and¬†Bravo’s ever-popular Watch What Happens Live.

O’Brien‘s strong¬†social media presence was also accredited for his success with adult viewers. The network also noted that the Primetime Emmy Award-winner currently has an estimated 10.7 million followers on Twitter and more than 2.5 million Facebook fans. The renewal is definitely a big win for all of the avid fans of the show.

Yay for Team Coco!
