  • The weekly social media ritual “Throwback Thursday” took on a whole new meaning when Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit actor Chris Pine visited the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

As a matter of fact the awkward experience was the epitome of mortification for the 33-year-old actor. On Thursday, Jan. 16, Pine sat down with the comedian-talk show host on the show. The interview started out just as any other.

According to US Weekly, DeGeneres kicked things off by sharing some little-known facts about Pine with the audience, explaining that he’s actually spent his entire life around the film industry.

She also revealed that his father Robert Pine was also the actor who portrayed the role of Sgt. Joseph Getraer on the hit drama series CHiPs which aired for six seasons from 1977 to 1983.

While she explained the Pine family’s lineage, she also opted to give the audience a visual so they could actually see the striking resemblance between the father and son. The first image she shared was of his father, but the second picture definitely caught the Star Trek film series actor off guard.

The image of his father flipped to one of his high school yearbook pictures. The picture revealed a much younger Chris Pine with a mullet haircut and a fuzzy beard.

Needless to say, he was quite flustered and uttered speechless! He gave the image a quick glance, then looked to DeGeneres and said, “Well, I’ll be seeing you later.” Then, he added, “I don’t really know what…”

“At the time, I’m sure it was important to have,” DeGeneres quipped of Pine’s mullet as the audience roared with laughter.

“What year is that?” she asked. “1998 or something,” he responded still flustered. Then, DeGeneres attempted to abate the actor’s embarrassment by excusing him for his fashion statement – or lack thereof. “We all should get a pass in the ’90s. No one wants to see themselves in the ’90s.”
However, Pine was more than ready to turn the focus away from the embarrassing picture. “You can take the picture down now,” he quipped. Its quite evident that Unstoppable actor has evolved over the years. But, another noticeable observation was his relief once DeGeneres moved on from the embarrassing picture!
