Chirlane McCray, writer and wife of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, met with Duchess Kate Middleton on Monday during Middleton and Prince William’s first U.S. visit, and spent the day in community service with her.
The duo met for a briefing on how to complete services for the Northside Center, which helps about 3,700 families in New York, and reportedly helped to wrap Christmas gifts for the children.
Middleton was welcomed with excitement during her visit, as several of the children associated her royal title with the princess from Frozen. Many of them gave her gifts, including 9-year old Serenity Rodriguez, who was impressed with the way Middleton carried herself.
“It was like she was a regular person. She didn’t come in fancy, she came in like a New Yorker. The tone of her voice was very nice. She was sweet, she was kind and she made me comfortable,” said Rodriguez.
