Charlize Theron and Sean Penn got secretly engaged last month in Paris, according to Us Weekly, but his rep says there's no truth to the rumor.
The L.A. Times reports that a rep for Sean Penn refused to issue a statement to the media, other than to say the story is 'all speculation.'
The rumor seems to be gaining speed, however, with a reason for why Charlize Theron isn't wearing an engagement ring despite her secret engagement to Sean Penn. It seems 'the low-key actress doesn't care for the all the trappings of traditional proposals.'
E! News reports that while the couple isn't engaged, they have made a commitment of sorts to one another.
"They have made a commitment to be together for the rest of their lives," a source tells E!. "They are discussing when and where they will have a wedding."

"What I guess I am trying to say is: A friend kind of stepped into that role [of making my life better], and I really didn't see it coming," she said. "Sean and I have known each other for 18 years. We were just really good friends. And it’s been slow going because you are aware that you could screw that up and lose it. We had to think about it. But at the end of the day, it was somewhat effortless. It just kind of naturally happened, and before I knew it, I was in something that was making my life better--the people who really love me can see the effect it has had on me."
Theron was previously in a lengthy relationship with Irish actor Stuart Townsend that ended in 2010. She has never been married. She adopted her son Jackson in 2012, with whom Penn is said to have grown close with.
Sean Penn was married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989 and then to House of Cards star Robin Wright from 1996 to 2010. He and Robin Wright share two adult children--Dylan and Hopper.
Perhaps word will one day soon emerge of a confirmed engagement between Charlize Theron and Sean Penn, but for now--unless it truly is a top secret engagement--it doesn't sound as though it's yet a done deal.
