He didn't mean to, but Cee Lo Green dropped a bomb today on The Ellen Degeneres show. The Voice coach will not be returning to the hit reality television show. "I'm going to miss The Voice, too. I'm not coming back, guys." He added, "I just don't want to wear out my welcome there, you know what I'm saying? I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven't released an album in four years. I'm almost done with my album."
Everyone, including Ellen, was shocked by the news. The 39 year old Gnarles Barkley singer took Season 4 off and returned for Season 5. Green also planned to take off for the upcoming Season 6 with Usher and Shakira coming in as replacement coaches. But everyone thought that Green would return for a Season 7, however, now it appears that he has other plans, including going on tour with Lionel Richie.
Green released a statement today confirming the news he spilled on Ellen. "The Voice has been an immensely enjoyable experience for me and I can only hope I have enriched the lives of our viewers, the contestants, and the many friends I made there. I will always be there in spirit. Meanwhile, NBC and I plan to continue our relationship with several new co-ventures including a new music show, while we also explore our ideas for me to create and host a new show of my own." He added, "Thanks for the memories and make way for many more!"
The Voice will return after The Olympics on Monday, February 24 at 8/7 c. Blake Shelton and Adam Levine will join Shakira and Usher on the coaching panel for Season 6. Green will exit the show never having coached a winning singer.
